WILD FLOWERS OF
Flowers are the main source of color and beauty and can give pleasure
from the earliest spring to late autumn. Rajouri is a land of beautiful spots
like Shahdara Sharief, Mangla Mata, Tatapani,
Dera-Gali surrounded by lofty mountains, snowcapped
peaks and full lush green meadows especially on Pir Panchal range. The meadows of surrounding mountains of
Rajouri are popular for their floriculture importance.
The beautiful colored spots of these green meadows increase the beauty of
the meadows, which are called as Flower-valleys. The flowers of these valleys
are generally wild but have peculiar characteristics, which inculcate an
attraction for them, and some of these have medicinal importance too. The
various important flowers of Rajouri are:
NARCICUSS (Nargis)

The beautiful flower grows during Feb. to March and it's
pleasant smell fill the surrounding atmosphere, which helps to establish the
importance of wild flowers. In Rajouri, it mostly grows at Shahdara,
Dhanhour Gorsian near Chowdrinar, Dhanwan
band also in Rajouri city.
BANAFSHA
The white flowers with purple shade are the ornaments of mountains of
Rajouri. It is the most frequently wild variety of Rajouri flowers, which grows
mostly in the Kakora, Ghambir,
Gurdhan Balla, Fatehpur, Palma, Dhangri, Dhanwan, and Rachwa etc. It
mostly grows in May and June. It has an excellent medicinal importance and is
collected, dried, and sold by the people of these villages in Rajouri market.

VICIA FLOWER (Seerhiri)
It is a yellowish colored small flower of a weed which grows in the month
of Nov. up to March, but flowering takes place in Feb. to March which makes the
green lands bloom with yellow beds in it. Before flowering is
also consumed as a vegetable called Seehiri Ka Saag. It grows abundantly in Rajouri district.
HUND FLOWER
It mostly grows in the northeastern part of Rajouri i.e. near Budhal mountains Darhal mountains, Thannamandi mountains,
etc. It grows from May to August when snow disappears from the valleys of these
mountains. The beautiful flower increases the beauty of meadows. Gujjars and Bakerwals use the
plant as a vegetable.
DIGITALIS (Scrophulariaceae, the Foxglove
family)
This is a well-known plant with bell shaped flowers decoratively arranged
in a long spike on an uptight stalk. The shole
Foxglove plant contains poisonous alkaloids dig toxin and digitalin
- which are an important constituent of many medicines. Thus it is called as a
medicinal herb. It grows at the end of May or at the beginning of June in the
mountains of Pir Panchal
near Dehra-Ki-Gali, Bhidawally
(Darhal Malkan).
VERBASCUM OR MULLEIN (Scrophulariaceae, the
foxglove family)

Mulleins are spread in the wild state and are found above all on stony,
dry, even parched slopes, seemingly unaffected by these barren conditions.
These are biennials. They germinate in the end of May to June and get young usually
in August. They form large rosettes of grew, spear shaped leaves in the first
year from which, in the second year, rises a strong stalk like a candle stick
bearing number of small, shallow, five petalled
flowers. They are widely found in Nowshera Tehsil (Lamberi village) and Sunderbani Tehsil (Siot, Thandapani) and Kalakote Tehsil.
WILD ROSE (Phalwari or Tardnardi)
A wild variety of rose plants compare favorably with the rosaries of the Mughal gardens of Srinagar. These
mostly grow in the month of April in thick forests of Rajouri.
TRIFOLIUM REPENSE (White Clover and Red Clover)
It has two varieties distinguished on the basis of color of the flower
i.e. white clover and red clover. The mostly grow in the pastures near Thannamandi, Darhal, Bakori, Budhal in March-April
onwards.
TARAXACUM OFFICINALS (Compositae)
It is a white shinning flower, which most commonly grows in the pastures
of Rajouri Mountains.
