Nowshera is situated between 33 degree 10 mints latitude and 74 degree 18 mints longitude. The elevation of the town from the sea level is 758 mtr. The total population of Nowshera town is 8435. The town comprises of about 1500 houses and 225 shops and spreads on 1144 acre of land. It is situated on the North side of a fertile valley Nowshera about 300 ft. above the right bank of Tawi River. The town is 124 kms away from Jammu and 45 kms from Rajouri. It is a tehsil headquarter and a growth centre of the district. Since it is located on the Line of Actual Control, therefore, the extension of the town could not be taken place after partition. But in the recent past, the town has again started developing.

Presently, Nowshera is a Tehsil comprising of 58 villages. The total population of the tehsil is about 62000. Out of which more than 50% population is living below poverty line. Efforts are being made to develop the area both by creating the infrastructure facilities and implementing the Beneficiary oriented Schemes. Number of roads have been started in the Tehsil to link up the remote and border villages. Efforts are also being made to provide drinking water facilities and power to every family. Rajal Canal is the main project existing in the tehsil. The total potential of the Canal is 2800 hector area. In spite of PoK insurgencies and proxi-war, Naushera is flourishing day-by-day and the town is emerging as a growth centre of the District Rajouri.

Before closing the accounts of Nowshera area, it is essential to mention about a religious Shrine "Mangla Mata" which has became the centre of religious attraction for the habitants of Nowshera area. Mangla Mata Dev Asthan is located near village Bhawani in Nowshera Tehsil of District Rajouri in a forest area and about 12 kms from Nowshera Town.
